²ÝÁñÉçÇø Guardian team set off on mammoth charity walk to raise money for Yellow Wellies and Farms For City Children

In conjunction with this year's campaign, 24 Hours in Farming, the ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Guardian team are attempting to raise money for two well-loved farming charities, Yellow Wellies via Len's Light and Farms For City Children.

For the first time ever, the team will embark on a 44-mile route around the Cotswolds from 7am today (Tuesday 7) and walk for 24 hours straight, shining a light on two important causes - mental health and connecting children to the British countryside.

Over £1,700 has been raised so far and, says ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Guardian editor Katie Jones, the money will go towards 'charities that put an immense amount of work in to highlighting issues that need to be spotlighted'.

Connecting inner city children to farming is key: "A boy from London now wants to be a farmer"

"I am really proud of the FG team for getting their walking boots on and taking part in the Big Farm Walk this year," she said.

"Mental health is spoken about more, but not enough. This industry can sometimes feel like an isolating place, but there is always someone to talk to.

"But it is also a sector full of opportunity, and that is why we need to connect the next generation - yes, we need people to come and work in farming, but even on a general level, it is only beneficial to us for more people to know where their food comes from.

"We are walking for two worthy causes."
