Having claimed the baby beef title at last year's event, Bella, a home-bred Limousin cross heifer from Tecwyn Jones and family, Holyhead, came back to win the overall supreme beef championship.

The February 2024-born 698 kg heifer by Seisiog Rio, a Limousin bull bred by the family, which they went on to sell for 14,000gns, is out of a British Blue cross Limousin cow. It was also baby beef champion at the 2024 Royal Welsh Winter Fair and champion commercial at this summer's Royal Welsh Show and will next head to the English Winter Fair and the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.

The judge, Gavin Scott, West Lothian, said he spotted his champion as soon as it came into the ring as it had great presence and was very smooth to handle and didn't look its weight.

Taking the reserve rosette was the steer champion, Spiced Rump, a June 2024-born son of the Limousin sire, Mystyle Perigrino from Edwards Bros, Corwen, shown by Dion Edwards. Bought privately from breeders, C.L. and F.E. Jerman, Trefeglwys, it will also be going to the English and Royal Welsh Winter Fairs.

Baby beef

Anabelle, a pure-bred Limousin heifer from Messrs Pennie and shown by Wendy Morgan claimed the overall baby beef championship. By Dinmore Tonka and bred by Paul Dawes, it was being shown for the first time and will be going to the Royal Welsh Winter Fair next.

The judge, Berwyn Hughes, Lampeter, said Anabelle was a very balanced heifer which was clean through its shoulder with natural width and tremendous fleshing.

Reserve in the baby beef section was The Crofter, a January 2025-born Limousin cross steer by Cantona from Andrew Ireland, Darvel, which had been bought at the Thainstone Spectacular in August from breeder, David Wright, Fortwilliam.

Sheep

In the sheep rings it was the champion pair of continental lambs from R. Hall and Son, Dalston, which went on to claim the supreme title. The home-bred pair by a Woodies Dutch Texel ram out of Beltex ewe weighed 96kg in total.

ÌýThe judge, Andrew Mutch, Malvern, said his champions were a ‘butchers dream' which were nicely fleshed but without too much fat and no waste.

Stephen Ridley, Temple Sowerby, had the winner and third in the single Mule gimmer lamb class with a pair by Midlock Magic bred by Martyn Archer, which had initially been sold for charity at his dispersal sale at Hexham mart.

The winning pair of Mule gimmer lambs by S16 Gragerth and S3 Bleagill from James Robinson, Carnforth, were bred by David Lawson and were from the third prize pen bought at Hawes. Ìý
