Achieving a best price to date for Bruce Goldie and family from Mouswald, Dumfries, this 20-month-old son of the 40,000gns Ampertaine Opportunity is out of the Wilodge LJ-sired Goldies Obsession.

He was reserve overall and reserve beef breeder at the Royal Highland Show in June, and sold to the pre-sale judge, Craig Douglas, manager of Allan Jenkinson's Whinfellpark herd of the outskirts of Penrith.

Messrs Goldie welcomed a further 32,000gns for their reserve intermediate champion, Goldies Viscount, which sold in a two-way split to Charlie Boden of the Sportsmans herd near Mellor, Stockport, and Kedzlie Farms of the Swalesmoor herd, near Halifax.

Again by Ampertaine Opportunity, it is out of Goldies Piano, a Goldies Juggler daughter.

First prize-winner Wedderburn Vance, from Sandy Hunter, Huntly, sold to Messrs Neill and Partners, Jedburgh, for 25,000gns. Bred from a Westpit Ollie daughter, it is by Foxhillfarm Ourbest.

Longwood Farm, Princes, Risborough, paid 17,000gns for William and James McKay's Ampertaine Volvo, a Carnew Millreef son from Maghera, Co Derry, to work in the Longwoods herd.

Three bulls sold for 16,000gns apiece, including the senior champion, Cowin Unleashed, which stood reserve overall for Dyfan and Rheon James, Carmarthenshire. This Goldies Orinocco son sold to Messrs Marrs and Son for the Kinniside herd near Cleator, Cumbria.

Later on, Messrs Shennan, Farden herd, Girvan, Ayrshire, paid 16,000gns for Pabo Valencia, a first prize Dolcorsllwyn Brynmor son from the Hughes family, Rhosgoch, Anglesey.

Iain and Andrew Nimmo, Wishaw, welcomed the third 16,000gns bid for the Morhan Peter-sired Maraiscote Vanita from Will and Jackie Forrester, Twemlows herd, Market Drayton.

14,000gns top for females

Females peaked at 14,000gns at the reduction of the Shaws and Tomlinson Limousin herds when Shaws Nigella, a Powerhouse Elite-sired eight-year-old along with its Tueman Idol-sired heifer calf at foot from Michael and Fiona Burns, Maybole, Ayrshire, sold to Drew Hyslop for his Bangtidy herd near Barhill, Ayrshire.

At 12,000gns was four-year-old Shaws Senga, a Huntershall Nutcracker daughter that sold to Messrs Percival for their Rosefields herd, near Milford, Belper, with its heifer calf by Pabo Peredur.

The Tomlinson portion from William Tomlinson, Treswell, Retford, peaked at 8,500gns for Tomlinson Uessie, a 30-month-old Gunnerfleet Lion heifer bred from a Carmorn Dauphin daughter.

She sold to the Shennan family for their Farden herd near Girvan, Ayrshire, having ran with Everpark Partylight.

Averages – 17 senior bulls, £8,072.64; 15 intermediate bulls, £15,029.00; 24 junior bulls, £8,771.88; overall, 56 bulls, £10,235.63. Shaws herd – 8 cows/heifers with calves, £9,170.00; 7 maiden heifers, £5,430.00. Tomlinson herd – 25 cows/heifers ran with bull/maiden - £3,792.00.
