Stirling bull sales: Meonside herd tops Beef Shorthorns

David and Tom Bradley Farmer led both male and female Beef Shorthorn trade

Beef ÌýShorthorn females sold to 9,000gns for the female champion, Meonside Jen Viva la Juicy, a May 2024-born heifer by Highsky Roger out of Meonside Jen Perry from David and Tom Bradley Farmer, Parkgate, Dumfres. The buyer was R. Taylor and Sons, Glasgow.

Next, making 8,000gns, was Coxhill Jen, a September 2023-born heifer by Meonside Nidavellir from L.J. Townsend, Moffat, which was knocked down to Andy Ryder, Carlisle.

Another heifer from the same home, Coxhill Venus by Crooked Post Tobias, made 6,000gns. The buyer was R.H. Bruce and Co, Hawick, who also paid 6,000gns for Coxhill Lily, a Fearn Peroni daughter from Messrs Townsend.

Glenisla Sally Broadhooks, a heifer by Playboy of Skaillhouse consigned by J. and J. Gibb, Blairgowrie, also made 6,000gns when selling to D. and A.C. Shakeshaft, Ellesmere.

Average - 26 females, £4,362.

Beef Shorthorn bulls sell to 6,500gns

A small entry of Beef Shorthorn bulls topped at 6,500gns for the overall champion, Meonside Valantis, a January 2024-born son of Fearn Wyvis out of Meonside Desirre SM Roma from David and Tom Bradley Farmer, Parkgate, Dumfries.

Having been champion at the Stars of the Future calf show and junior male champion at the National Show, it sold to C.T. and M.A. Ruby, Liskeard, Cornwall.

Three bulls sold for 5,000gns apiece. First was Pennygown Trooper, a September 2023-born son of Muiresk Peter Pan out of Glengarnock Rosalie from Pennygown Farm, Isle of Mull, which sold to W. and J. Andrew, Ayr.

Next, at 5,000gns, from Alison Watt, Keith, was October 2023-born Strathisla Twizell by Smallburn Nevada out of Strathisla Hyacinth, which was knocked down to N. Macinnes, Isle of Syke.

The other bull at 5,000gns was Mapleglen Moneymaker, a December 2023-born son of Charlesbury Hill Maker out of Wenmar Perfect Pride L137 from Baird, Edwards and Timbrell, Leigh, which sold to T. and T. Hamilton, Sanquhar.

Average – 4 bulls, £5,644 (+£457 on 2024).


Crichton dispersal tops at 9,000gns

Leading the dispersal of the Crichton herd of Beef Shortorns for Tom and Ian Walling, ÌýFarmstock Genetics, Selkirk, at 9,000gns was Crichton Patsy 1400, a two-year-old in-calf heifer by Coxhill Panther, which sold to A.E. and A.J. Thornber, Halifax.

Next, at 7,000gns, was Crichton Patsy 1281, a three-year-old daughter of Balgay Kinship, which sold to K. Morton, Denny.

Stock bull, five-year-old Coxhill Panther by Ballylinney Glenn made 6,200gns when selling to D. Steen, Moffat.

Averages – 8 cows with calves, £3,911; 1 heifer calf, £5,040; 5 in-calf heifers, £5,985; 1 stock bull, £6,510; 3 young bulls, £3,885.
