High of £8,500 at Thainstone Spectacular

A bid of £8,500 topped the sale of exhibition cattle at Thainstone for a Limousin cross heifer from J. Robertson and Son, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry. Scaling 495kgs, the second prize winner in the haltered section sold to an undisclosed buyer

The champion haltered heifer from J.S. Baillie and Son, Tankerness, Orkney, made £8,000. This February 2024-born Limousin cross heifer weighing 252kg sold to Susan and Allan Campbell, Lochgoilhead.

The overall champion heifer from Smallburn Farms, Plewlands, which sold for £5,500.

Balfour Baillie, Tankerness, Orkney, sold his 196kgs Limousin cross heifer for £6,000 to Stewart and Lindsay Bett, Stirling.

In the show of exhibition cattle, judge Neil Slack, Penrith, awarded the overall champion position to a heifer from Smallburn Farms, Plewlands, Duffus. The 476kgs Limousin cross heifer, sold for £5,500 to Blair Duffton, Huntly.

Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait, sold two Limousin cross heifers to Ross Withers, Cornwall. The first was a 476kg May 2024-born calf at £5,400, followed by a September 2024-born calf which sold for £4,000.

R. and D. Wright, Ardgour, sold their champion bullock, a Limousin cross, for £4,500 to A. Ireland, Darvel, Ayrshire.Ìý

The reserve heifer, a Limousin cross from J. Munro and Son, Invercharron, Ardgay, achieved £4,300, selling to Sarah Cheyne, Newtonmore.

AVERAGES: Heifers, £3,546.77; bullocks, £2,758.33.
