New 'Covid Secure' agricultural show set to go ahead in January

Cheshire Agricultural Society said it was looking to bring the agricultural and rural community together, while keeping apart

The Cheshire Agricultural Society has announced it will kickstart the year with a new ‘covid secure' event.

The Cheshire Agricultural Trade Fair will take place on January 28.

Mental health

Show director of The Cheshire Agricultural Society, Rob Davenport, said they wanted to set up an event to help get farmers and rural businesses back out and about.

"As farmers we have continued to work all hours throughout the pandemic, alongside rural businesses. Early mornings and late nights in what is already a very isolated industry, continuing to provide food for the nation.

"Typically, we only tend to get together at livestock markets and shows that come round once a year, so without these events, many of us have struggled to get out at all."

He added they were hoping for a sunny but crisp day at a quiet time in the agricultural calendar.

The event will be free and take place outdoors at the Cheshire County Show Ground.

Cheshire was currently under Tier 2 restrictions, meaning outside events with a maximum of 2,000 people can go ahead with restrictions in place.

Community

Mr Davenport appealed for the industry to come together ‘as a community'.

"We'd like to hope that people will support the event, for suppliers to meet clients, farmers to see friends and support each other."

All attendees will be required to register prior to avent to adhere to Covid restrictions and limit numbers attending.
