Averages up for store lambs at Skipton
An increase in both numbers and the overall sales average was seen at 听Skipton's opening show and sale of store lambs, with 2,957 head, up 530 on the year, levelling at 拢128.36/head, a rise of 拢11.06/head on 2025.
While short-keep lambs were in shorter supply than in previous years, the very best, smart, strong-looking lambs were 拢150-plus, with continental crosses leading the way on price.
Topping the sale at 拢194/head was a trio of Beltex-crosses from Haddon Farms, Meltham.
G.M. and S.V. Bayles, Barningham, sold Beltex-crosses at 拢186/head and 拢184/head.
The winning pen of 40 or more lambs, Beltex crosses from Robert Challinor, Dilhorne, sold for 拢178/head.
Andrew Haggas, Otterburn, was runner-up in show with 40 Beltex-crosses which made 拢163/head. The third-prize pen of 40 from David and Susan Pinder, Newton-in-Bowland, sold at 拢144/head.
The next grade of nice-skinned lambs made 拢145-拢160/head, a medium-keep types 拢135-拢140/head and 拢125-拢130/head for smaller smart lambs.
Large-framed Texels sold to 拢148/head from the Hewetson family, Bank Newton, with stronger types in the 拢130s/head, mediums 拢128- 拢132/head, and longer keep lambs 拢116-拢127/head.
Suffolk lambs were mainly from 拢128/head to a high of 拢136.50/head for James Foster, Bolton Abbey.
A few pens of Highlander/Romney crosses sold to 拢118/head, with some long-term types available for around 拢90/head.

Bluefaced Leicesters peak at 拢5,400 online
听The Blue Jewels online sale of Bluefaced Leicesters topped at 拢5,400 for a ewe lamb from S. Proctor's Spurrig flock, Cumbria. By 拢22,000 V1 Shitlington ,out of a show ewe by 拢33,000 N1 Hewgill, it sold to Messrs Pedley, Kirkby Stephen.
Next, at 拢5,100 was a shearling gimmer by T1 Skeagh, from A. and D. McKillop's Giant Causeway flock, Co Antrim, which sold to Messrs Pirrie, Glasgow.
听Messrs Allan, Appleby in Westmorland, then paid 拢3,800 for a 2023-born ewe by R1 Highberrie Haaland, from the same home.
Making 拢3,100 was a ewe lamb from F. Robertson's Broomiebank flock, West Lothian. By V2 Temain, it sold to Messrs Jackson, Newcastleton.

听Dairies in demand at Leek
There was a scorching trade for milkers at Leek, with every one selling for more than 拢2,000 and topping at 拢3,650 for cows and 拢3,600 for heifers.
听Sale leader was a second-calver from the Flowers family, Friden. By OCD Chronicle, it had given 11,349kg as a heifer and sold, giving 50kg, to a local buyer for 拢3,650.
Heifers peaked at 拢3,600 for a Drouncer K and L Chase daughter, from the Shepherd family, Bakewell. Giving 33kg, it went to Messrs Hulme, Basford.
听The Mellor family run of five second-calvers and one heifer to top at 拢3,500, and averaged 拢3,150.
听In-calf heifers topped at 拢2,850 for David Tomlinson, Ford.

Strong store cattle trade at Penrith
听Store cattle were in demand at Penrith, topping at 拢2,385/head for a pair of Limousin bullocks from K. Norman Farms, Redcar, with the consignment of 18 averaging 拢2,126.67.The heifer section topped by A.J. Glendinning, Harrogate, with a two-year-old Charolais which sold at 拢2,285, with the run of seven heifers averaging 拢2,096.
E. Hird, Park Head, sold a pen of four 20-month-old British Blue-cross heifers to 拢1,955/head.
J. and B. Donald and Son, Penrith, sold a pen of six 16-month-old British Blue cross bullocks to 拢1,785,/head while R. and J. A. Nettleton, Hutton in the Forest, sold 16-month-old Hereford bullocks to 拢1,925/head.

Summer Select Texels peak at 拢9,800
Topping the Summer Select online sale of Texels at 拢9,800 was a shearling gimmer by Forkins Hawkeye from A. Ligget's Corbo flock, Co Tyrone, which sold to Messrs Murphy, Co Tyrone.
Making 拢4,000 was a Mainview shearling gimmer by Oberstown Hercules from A. Kennedy, Co Antrim, which sold to Messrs Mangan, Co Mayo.
Another Corbo shearling gimmer by Forkins Hawkeye then sold for 拢3,800 in a two-way split to Messrs Greene and Messrs, McGrath, both Co Donegal.
Next at 拢3,600 was a shearling gimmer by a home-bred ram from Brian Hanthorn's Mullan flock, Co Armagh, which sold to Messrs Tuohy, Co Clare.
听Averages: 17 shearling gimmers, 拢2,435.88; 8 ewe lambs, 拢1,962.50.

听Dairy trade peaks at 拢3,800 in Gisburn
Pedigree newly calved heifers reached 拢3,800 at Gisburn where 32 pedigrees sold in excess of 拢3,000, and the 68 head including non-pedigrees levelled at 拢3,001.
Sale leader at 拢3,800 came from G. E. Airey and Sons' Loudbank herd, Preston, as a Peak Altaamulet daughter. From the same herd and selling at 拢3,550 was a Peak Altaindigo heifer from the Gladys family.
Then at 拢3,700, S.J. Sugden, Oakworth, sold Summerrose Earlybird Doris giving 34kg, this heifer having been Oswestry judge, Evan Ellis's choice for the pedigree class red rosette.
H. and V. E. Jolly, Great Eccleston, sold 10 heifers from their Fieldside herd to 拢3,650 for a 37kg Peak Altafuturama daughter. Also from Fieldside, were two at 拢3,600 apiece. 听听听
Jennings 草榴社区, Ripon sold an Aireburn-bred heifer at 拢3,600, while at the same price, was Goosnargh vendors F. R. Lawson and Son's Almondene Biddy 479 by Valiant Mitchell Rolex.
Five in-calf heifers all carrying Angus calves for August peaked at 拢2,920 for a Pine-Tree-I Pursuit from K. E. Robinson and Son, Carnforth, which had won its class.

Calves in demand at Skipton
An entry of 91 rearing calves forward Skipton's July show on Monday topped at 拢1,070 for the champion, a six-week-old British Blue bull by CBL Roadman from Rob and Sarah Marshall, Dacre.
The reserve champion from John Smith, of C. Smith and Sons, Sutton-in-Craven, was a British Blue bull, runner-up in its show class behind the victor, which made 拢900.
Champion and reserve both sold to the judge, Steven Loftohouse, Grewelthorpe.
There were further calls of 拢1,000 respectively for Stephen Clarke, Hampsthwaite and the Marshalls again, both with British Blue bulls.
听nra95 -sired calves sold to 拢960 for the Sowray family, Bishop Thornton, with a six-week-old bull, while the oldest Limousin bulls realised to 拢940 for G. Hayton and E.C. Stocks, Bolton Abbey.
听Aberdeen-Angus topped at 拢700 for Martyn Jennings, Cowling, with a bull calf. Black and white dairy bulls sold to to 拢355 for James Gooch, Cononley.
The Marshall's calves were placed first and second in the Blue heifer show class, resulting in both topping jointly at 拢810.
The first place other continental heifer was an Inra, again from the Sowray family that sold at 拢800.

听 Sedgemoor dairies top at 拢3,750
At Sedgemoor's collective dairy sale there were the first signs of an easing in trade for off lying or older cows due to concerns over a lack of grass due to hot weather, according to the auctioneers.
But there was still strong demand for fresh calves and in-calf heifers. The 60kg second calver, Beaconhill Fitz Janet, from M.J.K. Reed and Son, 听Blackborough, sold to 拢3,570 to top the sale.
Calved heifers sold to 拢3,150 for the 38kgs Peacehay Harris Fairy 105 from F.H. Chave and Son, Wellington.
The complete dispersal of the commercial herd for T.L. Rosewell and Son, Honiton, topped at 拢3,255 for a May calved red and white second lactation cow served again.
The continued dispersal for C.G. Capon, Isle of Wight, topped at 听拢2,572.50 for a July calved third lactation calved cow giving 32kgs.
The strong in-calf heifer trade continued with heifers 听from the Dimond family, Sherborne, topping at 拢3,360 for the September calving, Dorset Pursuit Helen, with others to 拢3,150 for members of the Princess and Joy families. Their six heifers averaged 拢3,139.50.
The bulling heifer trade remained strong topping at 拢1,575 six times for The Cooke Partnership, Cullompton, 听with their pedigree Cullyford heifers and the continued dispersal for Garrett Bros, Dorchester, with their Swedish Red cross commercial heifers. 听

Pedigree heifer tops Market Drayton
听At the July dairy show and sale at Market Drayton Market supported by the Western Holstein Club the championship went to from W.A. and C.G. Oakes, Byley, was the first prize pedigree heifer Alcar Daisy 168 which sold for for 拢3,600. Their other heifers sold to 拢3,620, 拢3,550 and 拢3,480 averaging 拢3,410 for five. They also sold second calvers at 拢3,200 and 拢3,050.
Clayden Farm Partners, Crewe ,sold second calvers for 拢3,280, 拢3,220 and 拢3,080.
The first prize commercial heifer from G.S. and A. Sheard, Stoke-on-Trent, sold for 拢3,600.
Other heifers over 拢3,000 were P & M Timmis, Standon 拢3,380 and 拢3,100, Mark Whitehurst, Adderley 拢3,150, Hilltop Farming Company, Northwich 拢3,050.

听Averages: 36 heifers, 拢2,584; 15 cows, 拢2,562.
