Virbac confirms immediate UK availability of BTV8 bluetongue vaccine

VIRBAC has announced that Syvazul BTV 8, a vaccine for the active immunisation of sheep and cattle against Bluetongue Virus Serotype 8 (BTV-8), is now in stock and available for immediate use through veterinary practices across England, Scotland and Wales.

With the risk of bluetongue remaining a significant concern for the UK agricultural sector, the immediate availability of Syvazul BTV 8 comes at a crucial time as farmers prepare for the peak midge season.

"We understand the pressure livestock farmers are under regarding the threat of Bluetongue," said Sarah Kearney, Product Manager at Virbac. "By making Syvazul BTV 8 vaccine available now, we are enabling vets and farmers to implement vaccination protocols early, so providing the best possible defence for their animals."

Vaccination against Bluetongue Virus Serotype 8 (BTV-8) remains the most effective tool for reducing clinical signs and lowering viral load within a herd or flock.

Syvazul BTV 8 is authorised for sheep for the prevention of viraemia and reduction of clinical signs and lesions caused by BTV-8, and cattle for the prevention of viraemia caused by BTV-8.

The vaccine can be used during pregnancy and lactation and carries a zero-day withdrawal period, supporting uninterrupted farm productivity.
