A round up of this weeks auction mart sales including reports from Dungannon, Holsworthy, Skipton and Market Drayton

Springhill leads Charollais offering at Dungannon

A EWE lamb full of breeding from Graham Foster's Springhill flock from Newtownstewart topped the Charollais export sale at Dungannon when it realised 4,800gns.

Part of the first prize pair of ewe lambs at the NI National Championships earlier in the year, it is by Springhill Crackerjack, itself a son of Boyo Bravemansgame, and out of a Oakchurch ewe by Cavick What A Boy. It sold to Messrs Wilson and Gallagher, County Donegal.

Another Springhill Crackerjack-sired ewe lamb from the same home sold to J.P. Graham and Son, Cumbria, for 4,400gns. This first prize winner at Omagh Show is out of a home-bred Boyo Walk This Way daughter.

Hitting 3,000gns was a Springhill Bobby Dazzler-sired ewe lamb from J. and D. Anderson, Bushmills, Co Antrim, which sold to Graham Foster for his Springhill flock. Its dam is by Springhill Vodka.

Shearling ewes sold to 2,800gns when N. Glanagan, Keady, County Armagh, paid that for a Beechview gimmer from G. and J. Booth, Stewartstown, Co Tyrone. This Beechview Boom daughter is out of a home-bred Hollylodge Titan daughter, and changed hands scanned with twins to Tullyear Amazon.

Other shearlings sold to 3,00gns for an Aghavilly Belvedere-sired Aghavilly gimmer from G. Baird, Amagh, which sold to A. Killion, Lecarrow, Co Roscommon, carrying a single to Iskeymeadow Courthouse.

Averages:Ìý45 in-lamb shearling ewes, £991.20; 35 ewe lambs, £1,431.60.

Strong demand at Holsworthy

IT was the overall champion that went on to top the annual Holsworthy dairy event where the entry of 86 cattle sold well from start to finish.

Leading the way was Willsbro Sidekick Ashlyn 3870 ET VG85, a second calver from Wills Brothers, Wadebridge, which sold for £3,800 yielding 54kg.

Regular vendors, R.N. and D. Jenkin, Helston, saw their fresh calved cows peak at £3,600 with others to £3,300 and £3,100.

The second and third prize cows, both from F.K., M. and S.K. Kendall, Bodmin, realised £3,500 with the same home selling others to £3,300 and £3,100.

Messrs Jenkin headed up the heifer trade at £3,600 with their entry of nine freshly calved heifers selling to average £3,011.

Sportsmans supreme Suffolk at Skipton

IT was a repeat supreme championship and top price coup for Charlie and Tom Boden's Cheshire-based Sportsmans flock at a show and sale of Suffolk females at Skipton.

Leading the way for the duo was a shearling ewe by the 52,000gns Lakeview 1 Up which claimed the championship before selling for the top price of 3,600gns to the judge, Harry Lyons, Cloudside flock, Congleton. Bred from a Frongoy Firenzy-sired Bridgeview dam, it changed hands carrying twins to the 15,000gns Howgillfoot Rocky.

Messrs Boden welcomed a further 2,400gns from J.M. Lonsdale, Rookhope, for the third prize gimmer, again by the Lakeview 1 Up ram and due twins to Howgillfoot Rocky but this time out of a Crewelands Captain Crusader-sired Howgillfoot ewe.ÌýÌý

Another Sportsmans gimmer by the Lakeview ram and scanned with a pair to Rocky realised 2,000gns when knocked down to A. and R. Gollodge, Wigan.

Hitting 3,000gns was the reserve champion, a ewe lamb from Myfyr Evans' Rhaeadr flock Denbighshire. This January-born Rhaeadr Northern Champ daughter is out of a home-bred Dunfell Dynamite ewe and sold to Andrew Cross, Preston.

The first prize ewe, a 2022-born Solwaybank Cracker daughter from Stephen Bolland's Wharfe flock, Bolton Abbey, realised 3,000gns when sold to the Gregson family, Briercliffe, Lancashire. Scanned with a single to Kings Superior, its dam is by Limestone Black Beauty.

The same consignor and buyer were behind a 2,500gns transaction for a 2023-born Bridgeview Maximus daughter carrying a single to the Kings ram.

Averages:Ìý48 in-lamb ewes, £1,286; 28 shearling ewes, £1,290; 36 ewe lambs, £823.

New dairy records at Market Drayton

NO fewer than nine females sold at £4,000 or above at the October show and sale at Market Drayton, supported by the Western Holstein Club.

Setting a centre record price of £4,250 was a heifer named Kingarth Flora 55 from the Barbour family, Leicester.

A consignment of six milkers from Lachstone Farms, Northwich, averaged a record £4,000 thanks to a second calver at £4,200 and a heifer at £4,100. Their entry included the champion, a second calver named Lachstone Cabo C Daisy, which made £4,050.

Clayden Farm Partners, Crewe, sold heifers to £4,100 and £4,000 with Hilltop Farming Co, Northwich, also selling heifers to £4,000.

J.M. and S.E. Jackson, Hinstock, sold a heifer at £4,050 and the first prize commercial cow, a second calver, for £3,800.

The second prize commercial heifer from R.W. and E.E. Edwards and Sons, Whitchurch, made £3,880, with the first prize entry from R.J. and R.H. Gadsbey, Stafford, at £3,800.
