Great Yorkshire Show: Large White reigns supreme in pig ring

The Large White boar, Tedfold Viking 1 gave Oliver Giles, Billinghurst, his first Great Yorkshire Show pig inter-breed title

By Portbredy Viking out of Portbredy Fanny, it won the Pig of the Year qualifier at Royal Bath and West where it was also male champion.

The judge, Paul Churchyard, Norfolk, said the boar had good hams, walked well, was well grown for its age and had a very even underline.

Female champion

Female champion and reserve overall was the Duroc champion, Deva Hover, a home-bred January 2025-born gilt from Jan Walton, Chester, which was being shown for the first time.

Hayley Loveless, Bridport, was reserve male champion with her home-bred January 2025-born Duroc boar, Hazeway Anden. Jack Holroyd, Preston, claimed the reserve female title with Addison Julia, a four-year-old Large Black sow which has had eight litters.

Landrace boar claims Pig of the Year title

Grace Bretherton, Preston, was awarded the Pig of the Year title with her modern champion, July 2024-born  home-bred British Landrace  boar, Hedgerow Dromus 180 by Hedgerow Guri 150, which had been breed champion at Nottinghamshire and Royal Cheshire Shows earlier in the year.
Taking reserve and the traditional female title was Sock Doreen 265, Large Black sow from Martin Snell, Yeovil.
