Heifer leads Hoghton View production sale at 7,500gns

The 10th anniversary production sale of Hoghton View Herefords, held at Lane Side Farm, Lancashire, on behalf of Steven and Lizzie Walker, included the entire 2024 heifer calf crop

Sale leader at 7,500gns was the 2024-born heifer Hoghton View Alice 3, an Auckvale Walktall daughter which sold to Oliver Janes, Briars Herefords, Somerset.

At 7,200gns to top the cow and calf trade was Hoghton View Chaela 1, with its heifer calf by Hoghton View Jackaroo, Chaela 3. The buyers were R. and E. Jackson, Lancashire.

Whitehill 1 Annie, together with its embryo bull calf by Auckvale 1 Walktall, Hoghton View New York, made 7,000gns to Messrs Janes and Hoghton View New Dawn 1 sold for 6,800gns with its calf New Dawn 3, by stockbull Rempstone Alcatraz

Another 2024-born heifer, Hoghton View Lilie 7, made 6,700gns to A. Massey, Bury, who also paid 6,000gns for Hoghton View Ms Unique 4, another Jackaroo daughter.

The sole bull entry, Hoghton View Aftershock, by Hoghton View Endure and from the Alfreda cow family was knocked down for 6,600gns to JH., A.D. and G.H. Morgan, Abergele.

Embryos peaked twice at 600gns for Moorside New Dawn cross Auckvale Walktall and Shraden Alice cross Auckvale Walktall.

Averages: Cows and calves, £6,468; heifers, £4,788; embryos, £521.
