Chaileybrook Killer Queen takes the Three Counties Show crown

Battling the competition to come out as inter-breed champion at this year's Royal Three Counties Show was an aged Southdown ewe, Chaileybrook Killer Queen from Jonathan Long and family who live a stone's throw from the showground in Bishops Frome, Herefordshire.

The Southdown from the Long family, Hereford

The family received ribbons across the Southdown section, but their ewe won the breed championship followed by the terminal sire title before claiming the inter-breed. The Beaujolais daughter is out of a home-breed ewe which previously won the breed champion here in both 2016 and 2019.

It was joined in the inter-breed by his Blue Texel and Badger Face Texel champions, which were also on the shortlist.

Mr Eckley was pleased to be so successful with the ram in the breed's centenary year and was returning to the show after not competing here for 25 years.

Tim Hunter, Louth, judged this year's Hampshire Down national show, which saw Stephen Short's Highcliffe flock based near Halifax, claim the championship with a ram lamb. While reserve went to Adrian Rundle, Cornwall, with a home-bred ewe lamb from his Treworthal flock.
