Scotland Hill Molly

Claiming the supreme beef championship was Scotland Hill Molly, a four-year-old Simmental cow from R.H. and S.H.W. Streggles, Norwich. It was shown with its January-born twin bull calves, Wacton Schoffel and Wacton Shotgun, at foot, and was also one half of the inter-breed winning pairs along with Fircovert Peacock, a two-year-old bull from Paul Gunther, Norwich.

By Clonagh King Eyes, Molly was bought as a heifer from breeders, Tom Hill and Ruby Wright, in Carlise three years ago and was breed and reserve inter-breed champion at Hertfordshire County Show earlier in the season.

Reserve

Standing reserve was the Limousin champion, Brockhurst Upandcoming, a two-year-old heifer by Goldies Relish from W.J. and M. Mash, Chesham, and shown by Jimmy McMillan. It was joined by stablemates, the yearling heifer, Brockhurst Vera and the Limousin male champion, Brockhurst Vanquish to take both the inter-breed group of three and inter-breed progeny group titles.

Inter-breed judge, Stephen Illingworth, Lockerbie, said his champion was an extremely smart, correct cow which was doing a great job in rearing two calves, but it was very close between the champion and reserve.

The native championship went to the Sussex champion, Nunningham Poll Delia 2, a two-year-old in-calf heifer by Offham Poll Crusader 3 shown by Brenda Hide and exhibited by John and Liz Hobden, Herstmonceus, East Sussex, who were competing at the show for the first time.

Junior inter-breed champion was Cade Romeo 24, a January 2024-born Simmental bull by Dovefields Gallant from P.A. and S.M. Cade, Buckden, with Brockhurst Vera in reserve.

Dairy

For the third year in a row the dairy inter-breed title went to John Smith Farms Clacton, Osyth, with the Holstein champion, five-year-old third calver, Wigboro Outlay Beechnut by Outlay.

Classified EX92 and currently producing 70kg daily after having calved in February, it will head to Lincolnshire Show next.

The reserve supreme title went to the any other breed and Ayrshire champion, Wroughton Nina 23. The third calver by Pam Ayrs Hawiian, was shown giving 35kg daily, and exhibited by Tom McCreadie of the Bonnie Mac herd, Burnham Market, who runs a small Ayrshire herd alongside his recruitment business.

Sheep

In the sheep rings, inter-breed judges, Tom Blunt, Shrewbury, and Alan West, Tonbridge, had a strong line-up in front of them but chose as supreme winner, the Suffolk champion.
This was a ram lamb from Merrick, Julie and Andrew Pinny's Alloaks flock, Northamptonshire, who have competed at the show every year since 1998. January-born and by their stock ram, Strathbogie Sinba, out of a home-bred ewe, the lamb was being shown for the first time.

Mr West said the champion was a very correct, smart sheep.

In reserve was the any other longwool breed champion, a Teeswater yearling from Melissa Starkings's Meljade flock, Great Yarmouth, which had been bought for her as a present, by her family, as a lamb.

Pigs

After an absence of seven years, Emma and Mark Edgar, Hertfordshire, made the return to the Suffolk show ring a triumphant one when claiming the inter-breed pig title.

Their champion was Bakers Actress 41, an October 2024-born British Lop gilt by Tudor Cornishman out of Bezurrell Actress 494.

Inter-breed judge, Ann Long, East Dereham, said the gilt was very correct, extremely eyecatching, walked very well and was in good condition.
