Galloway female record set at Carlisle for champion

A new female centre record of 4,500gns, a 100% clearance rate and increased averages across all sections were the highlights of the spring show and sale of Galloway cattle at Carlisle

The record breaker was the female champion, Barlaes Katie 110 from society vice-chairman, Robert McTurk, Dalry, who was claiming the title for the fourth consecutive year.
The 26-month-old daughter of Buccleuch Buster out of Barlaes Katie 98, sold in-calf to Kypehill Dutton, to J. Robertson and Son, Langholm.

The top price bull at 3,600gns was third prize winner, April 2023-born King of Whitehill by Avicii of Kilnstown out of Lady Nancy 767 of Whitehill from W.J. Henderson, Lockerbie, which sold to G.T.J. Medland, Tavistock.

Messrs Henderson also sold the second prize winning in-calf heifer, May 2022-born Brownie 965 of Whitehill by Ben Lomond Tamdhu for 2,600gns to J. Hepburn and Co, Hawick.

Making 2,500gns was the overall reserve champion and winning bull was September 2023-born Umpire of Balgray by Blackcraig Kodiac from D. and R. Cornthwaite, Lockerbie.

The buyer was Brian Ross, Sutherland, who also paid 2,400gns for the second prize bull, Borgue Espresso, a September 2023-born son of Blackcraig Drambuie from W. McCarthy, Kirkcudbrightshire.

Also making 2,400gns was Tatiana of Unthank, a March 2023-born daughter of Barquhill Oscar from A. Busby, Langholm, which was knocked down to Messrs Robertson.

Averages - 4 bulls, £2,756.25 (+£1,338.75 on 2024); 12 in-calf heifers, £2,056.25 (+£924.55); 22 maiden heifers, £1,823.18 (_£381.45); 7 non-pedigree maiden heifers, £1,128.51; 3 Blue Grey maiden heifers, £1,600; 5 Belted Galloway bulling heifers, £920; 2 in-calf heifers, £1,550.
